Gender Analyst
The FAO Managed Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia (FSNAU) seeks to hire a Gender Analyst. The Gender Analyst will report directly to the Chief Technical Advisor, and indirectly to the Technical Managers of FSNAU, with overall supervision of the FAO Country Officer in Charge and the FAO TCE. The Gender Analyst will work closely with the core technical food security, nutrition, livelihoods and the data systems teams, to ensure gender analysis is fully integrated within FSNAU’s baseline livelihoods, food security and nutrition information and analysis.
Overall Objective:
Lead in overall gender analysis within FSNAU’s food security, nutrition and livelihoods information.
Specific Objectives and Tasks
- In line with the recommendations from the global FAO Gender analyst mission report, develop indicators, methods and tools for incorporating gender analysis into FSNAU’s:
- Baseline Livelihood Analysis, in line with the analytical framework of Livelihood Strategies and Livelihood Assets
- Nutrition Surveys
- Seasonal Assessments
- Monthly Monitoring
- Rapid Emergency Assessments
- Participate in fieldwork and work closely with the field teams to ensure gender information is integrated within data collection and analysis activities
- Provide field training and guidelines to the technical team on who and how they interview to ensure a reliable and efficient data collection on the gender related questions
- Lead in the writing and editing of gender analysis within the Baseline Livelihood Reports, Seasonal Assessment Technical Series Reports, Nutrition Updates and Food Security and Nutrition Briefs and other FSNAU publications and ensure gender analysis is consistent, rigorous and of high quality.
- Develop and pilot a method for how gender analysis can be incorporated within the Part 1, 2 and 3 of the IPC Evidence Based Templates
- Represent FSNAU in the gender working group for Somalia
- Represent FSNAU in discussions with OCHA on the gender marking initiative
Qualifications
- University degree in relevant field (sociology, development studies, gender, agriculture, economics)
- Expertise in gender analysis with at least five years of related work experience
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Experience in PRA and other field survey methods
- Strong writing skills with examples of reports written
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in Somali highly desirable
- Women candidates are preferred
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout Somalia
Duty station: Nairobi, Kenya with travel to Somali
